Coming across the article and then the book based on the exhibition Faking It: A Visual History of 150 Years of Image Manipulation Before Photoshop staged by The Metropolitan Museum of Art was quite a pleasant, if often eerie, visual journey...

Way before digital and almighty Photoshop, the eminently "analogue" experiments with film compositing, multiple exposures and myriad other darkroom effects take one into a surprisingly surreal world.

Surprising, because our eyes and mind so accustomed to the most astonishing digital trickery, in both still and moving pictures, can still marvel at these fascinating creations.
